Kruispunt Migratie-Integratie renews its ICT infrastructure

Scalability and continuity were the main requirements for the new infrastructure of Kruispunt Migratie-Integratie vzw. "We were looking for a dynamic concept that should be expandable in the future", says Onno Buitenhuis, Department Manager Logistics. "And we also place high demands on the availability of our ICT environment." Kruispunt Migratie-Integratie has realized a successful renewal project in collaboration with Ferranti Computer Systems.

Promoting Integration

Kruispunt Migratie-Integratie vzw (Vlaams Minderhedencentrum until 2010)  is a center of expertise that helps society deal with migration and its consequences. In that the common interest is the primary consideration, not the interests of one single group. Kruispunt Migratie-Integratie develops its expertise along with the sectors civic integration, integration and social interpretation and translation. Kruispunt Migratie-Integratie is recognized as a center of expertise within the Integration Decree.

Time for renewal

The operating system of the applications as well as the applications themselves needed renewal. One of the possibilities was an upgrade, but yet they opted for a greenfield deployment of Hyper-V on Dell servers and storage. That way they could start from a clear environment and all would be in place from the beginning. In the future it will be possible, if necessary, to connect other entities to the same new infrastructure. The continuity of service of Kruispunt Migratie-Integratie stands or falls with a correctly functioning ICT environment.

 Virtualization as the ideal basis

The main requirements for the design of the new ICT infrastructure were scalability and continuity. So these two pillars formed the main principle for the renewal of the infrastructure. Always available and easily expandable in the future, it was clear that this could only be achieved by means of virtualization. This way, if a hardware defect occurs, another virtual server takes over and continuity is assured. They decided to continue the path of virtualization with Microsoft, as Hyper-V knowledge is already present within the organization and the Windows Server licenses to be purchased already contain the necessary functionality for Kruispunt Migratie-Integratie. On top of that, Windows Server 2012 offers numerous new capabilities for the Hyper-V platform.

Dell Server & Storage Platform

In terms of storage, Kruispunt Migratie-Integratie opted for a Dell server & storage platform. The new storage solution will function as “shared storage” and provides high availability, is dynamically extensible and highly efficient.

Finally Ferranti was also responsible for the implementation of the Exchange Server 2013 environment, the Microsoft Active Directory structure and the File & Print Services within the new infrastructure of Kruispunt Migratie-Integratie.

Satisfied with the result

“The project was completed within the specified time,” explains Onno Buitenhuis. “The partnership with Ferranti Computer Systems has been succesful and we are satisfied with the result. Also for the after service and support we can count on a reliable partner.”
