Digital Age Advertising

Signam!cs is a fully open web based software application that enables Digital Outdoor Advertisement on daylight displays. In other words, through a simple interface, called a portal, one can publish any message, any time you choose, at any place you choose… The portal enables you to handle all existing visual content on high quality digital displays and to control the timing of your message to the second, and make sure you reach your target viewer throughout the day.

Signam!cs offers significant display advertising possibilities due to its interactive character: it is a new media! Imagine advertising for coffee in the morning, for cable TV in the evening and for convertibles or sunglasses when it is sunny… A network of displays, strategically located, enables instant synchronization of advertising campaigns

Signam!cs is BARCO's answer to the growing requirements of the digital signage revolution. Signam!cs bridges online advertising , broadcast advertising and outdoor advertising into a fundamentally new medium.

Management & Scheduling of Content

The Signam!cs application has three objectives:

• The management of content
• The remote administration of displays and layout on displays
• Planning of the content

For the management of content, Signam!cs allows the user to define content, to store it, to transport it from one point in the network to another and to have it decoded/encoded so that it will display correctly on the display. The application operates independently of the type of screen and its capabilities, assuming the interfaces of the different modules are generic and flexible. The Signam!cs application provides a web-portal interface for all the services available.

Ferranti Computer Systems integrated the following products in order to build the Signam!cs solution for Barco Projection Systems:

• Oracle Database: storage of the different metadata.
• Ldap (Lightweight Directory Access Protocol): this was implemented to provide a transparent user management. Java Naming and Directory Interface (JNDI) was used to interface with the Ldap data store.
• Java Servlets was used to build the business logic.
• All user interfaces are plain html (thin client). The pages were built using Java Server Pages (jsp)
