Digital signage @ Ferranti

Ferranti Computer Systems installed Cisco’s DMS system in its new offices for the provision of information to personnel and visitors on the one hand and for the management and display of meeting room reservations on the other.

The coffee corners on every floor are equipped with a flat screen displaying both general and project information for personnel. The information is retrieved from various sources including the Ferranti intranet and the ICT trade press. General business news and information about Ferranti (events, news, etc.) is displayed in the reception area for visitors. In addition, a small display is located at the entrance to each meeting room with scheduling information for meetings to be held in that specific room.

Cisco DMS

Cisco’s Digital Media System incorporates technology that enables organizations to offer dynamic video and audio applications designed to bring customers, employees, partner companies and/or students in contact with each other anywhere and at any time

With Cisco’s Digital Media System, users can create, manage and display digital media in different formats on a variety of fixed and wireless devices both quickly and easily. They can do so via an IP network, boosting productivity by facilitating better communication and cooperation.

With the network as a platform for displaying digital media, customers from various industries can make use of the latest possibilities for communication and cooperation, marketing and sales, training and storing information.

The new Cisco Digital Media System is developed on the basis of internet technology and is primarily based on Cisco’s Service-Oriented Network Architecture (SONA). The latter aids organizations in migrating their existing network infrastructure to an intelligent information network (IIN) which enables new IP strategies such as service-oriented architecture (SOA), web services and virtualization.

Sharepoint as content platform

Sharepoint can serve as an intermediary platform for the creation and approval of content. Ferranti therefore developed a middleware solution with Sharepoint to integrate content within the Cisco digital signage solution. This integration software can also be used for distributing content via other sources.
