Dynamic passenger information system for the Province of Utrecht and Regional Administration of Utrecht

Following the Province of South Holland, Ferranti Computer Systems has now also received an order for the supply and management of a dynamic passenger information system (DPIS) for the “Provincie Utrecht” and the “Bestuur Regio Utrecht” (BRU).

The DPIS consists of 155 travel information displays at bus and tram stops and public transport transit points within the Province of Utrecht and the BRU. A subsequent phase will include orders for an additional 380 displays. The displays are produced and supplied by our partner Surtronic.

The assignment also includes the supply of a central travel information server for administering the displays. The central travel information server receives timetable information via TMI transmodel KV7&8. The latter are entirely developed as standard by Ferranti in collaboration with BISON.

The displays are also equipped with a short-distance radio modem (for communication with the busses) and audio equipment for ‘text to speech’ solutions for the visually impaired.

The contract for the installation, management and maintenance of all display clusters runs until 31 December 2011.
