Ferranti to provide Energy Supplier Nidera with Messaging and Data Management Systems

Systems integrator Ferranti will be managing an important project for Nidera, a newcomer to the energy market. Nidera has selected Ferranti to implement a complex messaging and data management system based on its proven MECOMS® for Microsoft Dynamics™ AX platform. As of April this year, Nidera will be supplying electricity to large consumers and green power customers, who generate their own energy, in Belgium and the Netherlands.

Nidera, based in Rotterdam, is an international trading company. The company is a newcomer in the energy market. Nidera will be targeting electricity generating companies in Belgium and the Netherlands and will also be taking on program responsibilities of its own.

Ferranti will be setting up an operating system for Nidera based on MECOMS® for Microsoft Dynamics™ AX. Ferranti designed this software as a standard (adaptable) solutions suite for the energy and utilities industry. MECOMS® imports and collects digital meter usage information (EDINE/EDIEL) from local network administrators and validates the readings. Thanks to MECOMS®, energy providers now have a quick, effective tool for submitting their capacity needs and settling their bids with TSO Auction.

The final delivery of the project will be carried out in two phases. On April 1, Ferranti will go live with a test system that displays meter data. On May 15, the final version will be installed and tested, with its full messaging and validation capabilities.

Ferranti Implements New Meter Reading and Invoicing System for Energy Supplier RWE in Record Time

MECOMS® for Microsoft Dynamics™ AX, the key to tackling large consumers in the Netherlands

Systems integrator Ferranti has set up a meter reading and invoicing system for RWE Nederland, a subsidiary of RWE Germany, within a very short time-frame. With its new operating system based on Ferranti’s proven MECOMS® for Microsoft Dynamics™ AX, RWE is now ready to tackle large consumers in the Netherlands.

RWE is a European energy company that supplies its customers with gas and electricity.

Towards the end of last year, RWE started its search for a specialized systems integrator to design its new meter reading and invoicing system. In early December 2006, RWE gave Ferranti the green light. Ferranti has developed an operating system for RWE based on MECOMS® for Microsoft Dynamics™ AX, the company’s standard (adaptable) software solution for the energy and utilities industry. RWE will be using MECOMS® to manage meter data collection and invoicing in the B2B market.

One of the successes of the project was its incredibly fast turnaround time. RWE was able to send out its first set of MECOMS®- generated invoices just two months after bringing Ferranti on board in December.

“Real Last Profiles” is a standard feature in the latest release of MECOMS® for Microsoft Dynamics™ AX. It processes the data collected by the meter reading company which is then automatically sent by EDI every 15 minutes. RWE receives some 96 different readings per customer per day. Using MECOMS®, this information can be linked to the latest electricity prices on the APX energy exchange. As a result, RWE can improve the accuracy of its invoices. The system is also able to manage other types of contracts.

RWE intends to use this system to invoice its biggest customers.

Ferranti Builds Multinational Business Intelligence Environment for Marine Harvest VAP Europe

Belgian system integrator Ferranti is currently working on an extensive Business Intelligence project for the Marine Harvest VAP Europe group. The environment centralises relevant corporate information from ten different European branches of the company in one data warehouse. It will enable the company's head office in to make better decisions.

Marine Harvest group breeds salmon and trout and produces derivative products. It has several fish farms all over the world.

For some time, the company had been looking for a solution to group the sales data of the branches in one central location. It wants to make detailed Business Intelligence analyses of the performance of the whole group.

Grouping geographically spread information wasn't Marine Harvest VAP Europe's only challenge; it also works with many different database environments.  Ferranti came up with an ETL (Extraction, Transformation and Loading) solution that retrieves the relevant data from, among others, DB2, Oracle, Progress, CSV-files and MS Access.

The data on clients, products, invoicing and costs of the different sites is collected, transformed and prepared for loading in the data warehouse in .

The architecture is based on Microsoft SQL Server and the Microsoft SQL Integration Services. In the head office in , Microsoft Reporting Services provides the Business Decision environment.

This project is very important for Ferranti in the context of its partnership with Microsoft. By bringing this project to a good conclusion Ferranti is showing Microsoft, but also other potential clients, that it can hold its own in terms of BI.

Ferranti Helps Launch Dutch Waste Treatment Company on Energy Market

HVC Energy orders Mecoms for Dynamics AX

System integrator Ferranti will install a system to manage Dutch waste treatment company HVC's energy customers.  HVCenergie, a 100% subsidiary of HVC, has ordered the MECOMS for Microsoft Dynamics™ AX system.

HVC is a Dutch waste treatment company that aims at effective waste management from both an economic and environmental point of view. Its main activities are the collection of waste and treatment by composting & recycling, logistics and incineration & energy generation. The waste treatment plants in Alkmaar and Dordrecht represent a total electricity production capacity of approximately 100 megawatt.

This “green” energy will be offered primarily as a consumer product.

HVCenergie was looking for a system to manage all the processes involved with the generation and sale of energy. Ferranti will implement an operating system based on MECOMS for Microsoft Dynamics™ AX for HVCenergie. This software has been specifically developed as a standard applicable (and adaptable) solution for the sector.

By the end of this year HVC will use MECOMS to supply large-scale consumers.

Ferranti and Lemento Prove Extensive Knowledge and Possibilities of New Sharepoint through Joint Project

System integrator Ferranti is one of the first Belgian companies to go live with Microsoft SharePoint 2007. This new system for the management of web content has been the core of Ferranti’s websites since the end of January. Antwerp Corporate identity specialist Lemento has utilised its extensive expertise regarding corporate identity to bring the Microsoft environment in line with Ferranti’s house style.

Ferranti now uses the new version of Microsoft's content management system for its websites. Because the company also offers SharePoint implementations to its clients, Ferranti immediately saw the new CMS as a practical test.

SharePoint 2007 comprises several innovations. The strong integration with new Microsoft products, such as Excel server, Business Scorecard Manager, Forms Server, Workflow Foundation and Business Data Catalogue, is particularly obvious. Ferranti has managed its intranet on SharePoint for some time, but thought the time was right to incorporate the commercial sites in the system as well with the advent of the new system.

“SharePoint 2007 is an enormous step forward compared to previous versions,” says Frederik Baert, Business Unit manager at Ferranti. “For the first time there is a seamless integration with Office applications, an extensive search feature, project management, RSS-feeds, security and document management.”

Ferranti worked with communication agency Lemento to adapt its house style to the new platform. It was not the easiest of jobs because it required extensive knowledge of the software.

“The main challenge was to incorporate Ferranti's house style in the application. We hardly had to make any concessions in terms of graphic design and lay out,” says Tom Vanderbauwhede, Managing Director of Lemento. “Compared to other content management systems, it is particularly flexible. In SharePoint you can be really design-based, and apply your own styles. We started with the beta version, because we were convinced of the possibilities after seeing a demo.”

The project proves that both Ferranti and Lemento are ready to take on more projects.  “Sharepoint will be an important niche market for us,” continues Tom Vanderbauwhede. “Corporate Identity is not tangible; it is a paradigm against which a company needs to test all its communication expressions.  And systems such as SharePoint make this perfectly possible.
