Ferranti realizes "Centraal Systeem Stuursignaal" for EDSN |
|
Ferranti Computer Systems is the supplier of Energy Data Services Netherlands’ (EDSN) "Centraal Systeem Stuursignaal " (Central System Steering Signal) or CSS. The central system steering signal for gas gathers master data from all (country) grid operators and steering connection metering data from the respective metering coordinators every hour. The steering signal is calculated for each pseudo GOS and transmitted to GTS. This enables shippers to determine their balance position quicker and with greater accuracy. Almost all market players in the Netherlands will communicate with this central system.
EDSN is responsible for administrative communication in the energy market. EDSN aims to optimize administrative data transfer in the energy market and to simplify and improve messaging. EDSN is the executive body of the Dutch Energy Data Exchange Association (NEDU), a platform representing all energy companies in the Netherlands.

Texaco saves up to 30% on IT infrastructure maintenance costs thanks to consolidation via Microsoft platform |
|
When Delek took over Texaco’s fuel marketing activities from Chevron, the IT and network infrastructure needed to be adapted. Because Delek did not have enough in-house IT technicians to carry out the migration itself, it sought the assistance of IT specialists, Ferranti Computer Systems.
Ferranti converted the existing servers, applications and work stations for use within an entirely new infrastructure. The project involved the installation of, among others, Microsoft Windows Server 2003 with Active Directory, Office Exchange 2007, SQL Server 2005, Windows Terminal Server and Office SharePoint Server. In order to configure the various servers and PCs remotely, Ferranti used Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager. Ferranti also took over responsibility for the entire network management.
Since the migration, the quality and stability of the infrastructure has been greatly enhanced. Employees are now able to login wirelessly and work from home. The number of incidents has decreased by up to 40 %, maintenance costs were reduced by 30 % and network problems have been eradicated. The level of security of the IT environment has also been greatly increased, the infrastructure is easier to operate and the total costs for the IT department are a fifth lower than before the migration.

Upgrade and extension of IPTel for the city of Genk |
|
The City of Genk has a clear and transparent vision on ICT and is always focused on the practical added value of automation for both council personnel and its citizens. The goal of all extensions or adjustments to their automation systems is always to improve the level of service for the city’s inhabitants.
The City of Genk had been using VOIP for several years and needed to extend its IPTel network and upgrade its Cisco CallManager, the central nervous system of voice over IP. In consultation with the City of Genk, Ferranti proposed a new design that is both future-oriented and in line with their strategic vision on Unified Communications. The extended and upgraded system now permits intelligent and advanced call routings, statistical logs and, above all, integration with active directory and third party applications. It therefore offers significant added value, both for the end-user and the citizens with whom they come into contact via the telephone network.
