Careers rarely follow a perfectly straight line. Often, they evolve through curiosity, opportunities, and the willingness to step into something new. At Ferranti, that kind of growth is part of the culture, and Jeroen Luyckx’s journey is a great example of it.
Since joining Ferranti in 2014, Jeroen has grown from a development consultant into a Program Manager. Along the way, he discovered new interests, took on unexpected responsibilities, and learned that sometimes the best career opportunities are the ones you didn’t initially plan for.

Jeroen Luyckx is 35 years old and lives in Kalmthout with his wife and their six-year-old son, Ben. He started his professional career in 2012 at Infront, a company within the Cronos Group.
Two years later, in January 2014, he joined Ferranti, a step that would shape the path of his career for the years to come. Today, Jeroen works as a Program Manager, overseeing programs for commercial suppliers and collaborating closely with teams and customers. But when he first started, his role looked very different.
Jeroen joined Ferranti as a Development Consultant working on AMS projects. His first assignment was with Essent B2B in the Netherlands.
Those early years gave him a strong technical foundation. Working on multiple projects allowed him to learn the MECOMS platform inside out, from the data model to the standard processes that support customers in the utilities sector. But over time, Jeroen noticed something interesting. While he enjoyed the technical work, he found himself increasingly drawn to another aspect of projects: the interaction with customers and the challenge of understanding business processes.

“I realized that I liked the customer-facing side more and more. Understanding how a business works and translating that into a technical solution really interested me.”
After three years as a development consultant, Jeroen made a shift. With his strong technical knowledge and growing understanding of MECOMS processes, he transitioned into the role of Functional Consultant.
Initially, he worked on change requests and aftercare support for live customers. But his responsibilities gradually expanded, and he became more involved in project work. A major turning point came in 2019, when Jeroen took on the role of Migration Lead for the Brabant Water project.
Migration plays a critical role in any implementation project, often sitting directly on the project’s critical path. Taking ownership of such a key responsibility pushed Jeroen to look beyond his own tasks and think more broadly about project planning, coordination, and delivery. It also sparked a new interest: project management.
When Brabant Water successfully went live in April 2022, Jeroen’s role evolved again. He became Service Delivery Manager, leading a SCRUM team of around 10 to 12 consultants working for the customer. In addition to guiding the team, he also took on the role of scrum master, supporting colleagues in their daily work and helping the team move forward together.
His background at Ferranti, combining both technical and functional expertise helped him connect the dots between the challenges the team faced and the solutions they needed. For Jeroen, this role was about more than just project delivery. It was also about people.
“It was really about coaching the team, supporting them, and making sure everyone could do their best work.”

Looking back, Jeroen says Ferranti provided many opportunities to learn and grow, both professionally and personally. One of the most important lessons he learned is to trust your own abilities while also being open about challenges
-“Be confident in what you can do, but if you have doubts, speak up and ask around.”
Despite the company’s growth over the years, Ferranti has kept what he describes as a family atmosphere. Open communication is encouraged, and collaboration across teams and roles is part of daily life.
–“It’s not a company with a strict hierarchy. You can have a conversation with anyone, whether it’s a developer or the COO. Input from everyone is appreciated.”
Whenever Jeroen stepped into a new role, he was supported by colleagues who helped him navigate the challenges. Ferranti also invested in training, both technical and soft skills, to help him develop further.
If there’s one thing Jeroen believes about growth at Ferranti, it’s that opportunities are there, but you have to take them.
–“Opportunities are everywhere within the company, but it’s up to you to take the initiative.”
For him, growth often came from accepting responsibilities that were outside his comfort zone, thinking beyond his own tasks, and taking ownership of the work he was delivering. His advice to colleagues who want to grow within Ferranti?
-“Stay open to opportunities, even if they don’t seem like the perfect fit at first. Sometimes those are the ones that help you grow the most.”
After years of experience across projects and roles, another opportunity came along.
Following the go-live of Engie in April 2025, Jeroen helped support the transition of the customer to MECOMS during the hypercare phase while continuing his work with Brabant Water.
Managing multiple customers and new challenges broadened his perspective even further. Then, in the summer of 2025, he was asked to take on the role of Program Manager for commercial suppliers at Ferranti.

“For me, it really felt like all the puzzle pieces fell into place”
Today, Jeroen focuses on overseeing programs, supporting teams, and working closely with customers to ensure successful collaboration and delivery.
When reflecting on his journey, Jeroen feels grateful for the opportunities he has had at Ferranti.
Each role brought new challenges and new lessons. But more importantly, each step allowed him to grow, not only as a professional, but also as part of a team. And while he has already experienced significant career growth, he believes there is still more to come.
– “I’m very grateful for the opportunities I’ve been given over the years, and I’m looking forward to what the future will bring.”
For Jeroen, Ferranti is a place where people who are curious, open, and willing to take initiative can truly develop their careers. The company combines professional ambition with a collaborative culture where colleagues support each other and share knowledge freely.
“Ferranti has grown a lot over the years, but it still keeps that family atmosphere. People help each other and work together to move forward. And for those ready to take initiative, the opportunities to grow are always there.”
