More on Luminus

Luminus has gas-fired electricity plants, wind farms and hydraulic power stations on various sites in Wallonia and Flanders. They have 1,700,000 customer accounts, both householders and companies, and approximately 1,000 employees.

The Grid Fee is a fee which, in the Belgian liberalized energy market model, is billed by the DGO (Distribution Grid Operator) to the Supplier(s) for the usage of the distribution grid.

The Reconciliation process is a final settlement of the consumed volumes, several years after they have taken place. Invoices that were initially based on estimations can now be recalculated based on actual reads and the difference is considered the reconciliation cost. This reconciliation cost could be a positive or negative bill from the DGO towards the Supplier(s).

MECOMS Solution

Both the Grid Fee and the Reconciliation cost are based on consumption data. The process implemented in MECOMS is a full bottom-up recalculation of the received bills, based on objective meter reading data received from the Meter Reading Responsible. Based on the outcome of this recalculation, Luminus has the knowledge to decide on partial or full payment of the bills or requesting rectifications to the provided data.

The MECOMS Energy DataStore stores all invoice-, reconciliation-, consumption- and master data using its market-compliant messaging system. The calculation and verification modules then start validating and checking on correctness and completeness of this data and will start the reconciliation. The outcome of these checks can be reviewed through several configurable reports for a full overview, or more in detail through inconsistency lists. These lists can also be used to generate rectification requests towards the DGOs.

In the end, the reconciliation and settlement process is performed in a much shorter cycle with fewer errors. MECOMS built-in flexibility allows Luminus to respond faster to changing market conditions.
